We were delighted to welcome Paul Wheelhouse MSP, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, who visited our factory and Group headquarters in Selkirk to help to support the company’s commitment to rural investment across all its operations, including a £1 million plus capital investment programme and pledges to local employees and the Borders community.

The Minister was taken on a tour of the expanding manufacturing plant by Managing Director Robin Leith, who highlighted the £1 million capital investment programme that the company has delivered during the last three years, to support the ongoing 2020 growth programme.

This has included a £400,000 expansion project which has increased manufacturing and warehousing capacity by 40% in line with increased business growth, and the recent addition of a £125,000 new filling-line which will see annual output exceeding 10 million litres of liquid product over the next three years. There are ambitious plans afoot also to expand the footprint of the site generally, adding more warehousing for packaging and finished goods, production space for additional mixing tanks and filling equipment specifically for larger 10 litre drums to keep pace with our growing laundry business primarily in the residential care sector.

We also used the Minister’s visit to highlight the investment that it has made in employee welfare and to the local and national communities that we serve, including our accreditation as a Scottish Living Wage employer, our commitment to The Scottish Business Pledge and our involvement in the ground-breaking Meals and More scheme pioneered by the UK’s leading food wholesaler Brakes Group, which aims to tackle ‘holiday hunger’ amongst school children in the Scottish Borders, in Scotland, and across the whole of the UK.

Welcoming Paul Wheelhouse to the Selkirk factory, Managing Director, Robin Leith, said: “These are exciting times for the company and I am delighted to share some of our more significant investment milestones with the Minister which highlights our commitment to our customers, our staff and our local community alike. During the last three years we have delivered significant investment in plant, machinery and technology which will help drive our business forward by increasing our manufacturing and logistics capabilities in line with ambitious future growth targets.”

Paul Wheelhouse MSP added: “Successful family-owned businesses like RP Adam make a unique and powerful contribution to growth across Scotland. They are fundamental to our continued economic success. RP Adam has been a success for 125 years and continues to go from strength to strength. I would like to congratulate the company for making the Scottish Business Pledge and for its commitment to fair work and the Living Wage as well as the investment it has made in the wider community of the Borders and beyond.

The company is keenly aware that our relative commercial prosperity can also help tackle some of the bigger social issues facing our world and more specifically our local community today, which is why we support the Meals & More initiative which aims to fight against child hunger and poverty on our own doorstep.

The Minister concluded, “I particularly want to note the company's support for the Meals and More programme, which is further testament to the progressiveness of RP Adam in looking after the community of the Borders and wider South Scotland and I warmly commend the RP Adam team for demonstrating they care about those in the community who need support.”
